Burn
Brae Minors
There are many classes
that can be taken as minors at Burn Brae, including: Painting, Drawing, Ceramics,
Crafts, Digital Photography, Theatre, Voice, All Musical Instruments, Jazz/Band/Orchestra, Rock
Band, Jazz Dance/Hip-Hop, Modern Dance, Ballet/Tap, TV/Video, D.J. Camp Zone, Circus Arts/Magic,
Computer Instruction, Creative Writing and Nature Studies. The following sports
can be taken as minors as well: Archery, Basketball, Ga-Ga, Soccer/Field
Sports, and Tennis.
Several of these classes
are offered as minors only: Computer Instruction is one of the favorites and
offers training in programming, general use, games, educational activities,
music composition, art graphics and web design.
RECENT ADDITIONS
Lego/Robotics: campers will build Lego models, brainstorm problems and create their own solutions as they learn to design, program and control fully-functional models. They will use software to plan, test and modify sequences of instructions for a variety of life-like robotic behaviors.
Leadership Program for Teens: for our 15-year-old half-campers/half-apprentices and full-time apprentices, this program includes learning activities such as conflict resolution, role modeling, working with children, child development, developing leadership skills and more! Upon completion of this eight-week program, participants receive Leadership Certificates.
We also offer Project Runway– an exciting minor for both our Junior and Senior campers. This class covers modeling etiquette, poise, fashion, fashion and hair design and positive self-image.
Have you ever been to a party and wanted to make it better by picking your own songs to play and watching it all come alive? This summer, learn to be a D.J. at Burn Brae! With our D.J. minor, the curriculum starts with basic instruction in the art of sound as well as learning about all the entertainment components needed to run a party including lighting, interactive dances and games, and other skills. This is a hands-on minor with plenty of exposure to mixing music and talking on the microphone.
In Nature Studies, campers learn to care for the
environment; they also learn about nature, animals, insects and plant life as well as outdoor camper skills including pitching a tent.
Crafts, games and science experiments are also part of this activity.
Another very popular minor is Circus Arts and Magic, in which campers learn
juggling, balloon sculptures, mime, magic, clowning and stand-up comedy. Circus
Arts is taught by a professional clown and magician.
Burn Brae offers drums and guitar classes as minors for campers of all levels
and also offers a Rock Band. The rock band performs at showtimes, festivals
and is frequently the star performance at the sleepover.
Tennis is one of the most popular sports minors at Burn Brae and is taught
by a professional tennis player.
